حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، ثنا هَوْذَةُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، ثنا عَوْفٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا قَدْ صَاحَبَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَالِكٌ أَوْ أَبُو مَالِكٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَقْوَامًا مَا هُمْ بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ يَغْبِطُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ كَأَنَّهُمْ مِنَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، أَقْوَامٌ مِنْ قَبَائِلَ شَتَّى يَتَحَابُّونَ فِي اللهِ»
Shahr bin Hawshab narrates: There was a man among us who had kept the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he was called Malik or Abu Malik. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I know of some people who are neither prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs envy them, as though they are close to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. They are people from various tribes who love one another for the sake of Allah."
