Ibn Jabir bin Atik narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Jabir bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "Among jealousy is that which Allah loves and that which Allah dislikes. The jealousy that Allah loves is jealousy where there is cause for suspicion, and the jealousy that Allah dislikes is jealousy without cause. Likewise, among pride is that which Allah loves and that which Allah dislikes. The pride that Allah loves is a man's taking pride in himself when giving charity and when fighting, and the pride that Allah dislikes is pride in oppression and wickedness."

Ibn Atik narrates from his father: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever goes out as a mujahid in the path of Allah" - then he (peace and blessings be upon him) joined three of his fingers together and said - "and where are the mujahidun? Then if he falls from his mount and dies, his reward is due from Allah; or if he dies a natural death, his reward is likewise due from Allah; and whoever is killed outright in battle has earned a good place of return."

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out to him, but he did not answer. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited 'Inna lillahi' and said: "O Abu al-Rabi', we have been overcome in your matter (that is, the decree has prevailed)." Then the women began to cry out and weep, and Ibn Atik began to silence them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave them, but when it becomes due, let no weeping woman weep." The people said: O Messenger of Allah, what is meant by its becoming due? He said: "When he dies." His daughter said: By Allah, I had hoped that you would be a martyr, for you had already prepared your equipment (for jihad). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has granted him his reward according to his intention. And what do you consider martyrdom to be?" The people said: Being killed in the path of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Besides being killed in the path of Allah, martyrdom is of seven kinds: the one who dies of plague is a martyr, the one who drowns is a martyr, the one who dies of pleurisy is a martyr, the one who dies of an abdominal illness is a martyr, the one who is burned in a fire is a martyr, the one who dies crushed under a collapsed building is a martyr, and the woman who dies in childbirth is a martyr."
