حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلْمٍ الرَّازِيُّ، ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، قَالُوا: ثنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعُمَيْسِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ جَبْرٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَادَهُ فِي مَرَضِهِ، فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ: إِنْ كُنَّ لَنَرْجُو أَنْ يَكُونَ وَفَاتُهُ قَتْلًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ، الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ، وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ، وَالْغَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ، وَالْحَرِقُ شَهِيدٌ، وَالْمَجْنُوبُ شَهِيدٌ»
Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Jabr narrates from his father, from his grandfather, Sayyiduna Jabr (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) visited him in his illness. Someone said: We had hoped that his death would be by being killed in the path of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If that were so, the martyrs of my Ummah would be very few. The one killed in the path of Allah is a martyr, the one who dies of an abdominal illness is a martyr, the one who dies of plague is a martyr, the one who drowns is a martyr, the one who is burned in a fire is a martyr, and the one who dies of pleurisy is a martyr."
