Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) announced the Hajj among us, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, until when we reached the mosque by the tree (al-Shajarah), he (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted and we dismounted too. Then we mounted and stood waiting until he (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted. Then when we reached Makkah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed tawaf and we performed tawaf too. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs in which he recited 'Qul ya ayyuha al-kafirun' and 'Qul huwa Allahu ahad'. Then we performed sa'i between Safa and Marwah, until when we were at Marwah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has not sent a sacrificial animal (hady), let him come out of ihram." We said: O Messenger of Allah, but we had intended Hajj? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hajj has entered into Umrah." So we had relations with women and applied perfume. Then, when we arrived, four days remained between us and going to Mina. We said: How are we to go to Mina while our organs are dripping semen because of our wives? Upon this Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, tell us as though we had been born only today. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hajj has entered into Umrah." He said: Is this for us specifically, or forever? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather forever."
