Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions arrived (in Makkah) on the morning of the fourth (of Dhu al-Hijjah), in ihram for Hajj alone, with nothing else mixed with it. When we arrived, he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us, so we made it an Umrah, and (he ordered) that we become lawful for our wives. Then talk arose about this. Ata says: Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Is one of us to go to Mina while his organ is dripping semen? Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: This reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon and said: "It has reached me that some people are saying such and such. By Allah, I am more righteous and more God-fearing towards Allah than they are. Had I known beforehand what I came to know afterwards, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal (hady), and were it not that I have the sacrificial animal with me, I would have come out of ihram." Upon this Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Malik bin Ju'shum (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, is this (ruling) for us only, or forever? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, forever." And Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came. One of the two (narrators) says that he said: I pronounce the talbiyah for that for which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered ihram; and the other says that he said: I pronounce the talbiyah for the Hajj of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to remain in his ihram, and made him a partner in his sacrificial animals.
