The narrator states that Sayyiduna Salamah bin Sakhr (may Allah be pleased with him) declared his wife, by way of zihar, to be like his mother's back until Ramadan had passed. Then when half the month had passed, he had intercourse with her at night, and he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Free a slave." He said: I do not have one. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Can you fast two consecutive months?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then feed sixty poor people." He said: I do not have the means. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Farwah bin Amr (who used to estimate the yield of the date-palms in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)): "Give him that basket," which held fifteen sa' of dates. He said: "Go and feed sixty poor people."
