It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman bin Sakhr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he declared his wife (forbidden) to him like his mother's back until Ramadan had passed (he made zihar). Then she grew plump and healthy, and he had intercourse with her in the middle of Ramadan. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as though he considered the matter very grave, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Can you free a slave?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Can you fast two consecutive months?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Then can you feed sixty poor people?" He said: No. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Farwah bin Amr, give him that faraq" (which held fifteen sa') "and let him give it to sixty poor people." He said: To someone poorer than me? By the One who sent you with the truth, between the two lava tracts of Madinah there is no household more needy of it than us! So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed, then said: "Take it to your family."
