حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ كَتَبَ يَذْكُرُ، أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عُوَيْمِرًا قَالَ لِابْنِ عَمِّهِ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ: انْطَلِقْ بِنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَنِّي وَجَدْتُ عِنْدَ أَهْلِي رَجُلًا، أَقْتُلُهُ؟، فَكَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَوْلَهُ، فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ عُوَيْمِرٌ: لَأَذْكُرَنَّ ذَلِكَ لَهُ وَإِنْ كَرِهَ، فَأَتَاهُ عُوَيْمِرٌ فَقَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ وَجَدْتُ عِنْدَ أَهْلِي رَجُلًا، فَقَالَ: «ائْتِ بَامْرَأَتِكَ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ نَزَلَ فِيكُمَا» ، فَجَاءَ بِهَا فَتَلَاعَنَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنِّي قَدِ افْتَرَيْتُ عَلَيْهَا، فَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا، قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ: «فَكَانَتْ سُنَّةً فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِرَاقُهُ إِيَّاهَا»
Uwaymir said to his cousin Asim bin Adi: "Take us to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then he said: "What do you think if I find a (strange) man with my wife: should I kill him?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked what he said, so he went back. Uwaymir said: "I will certainly mention this to him (peace and blessings be upon him) myself, even if he (peace and blessings be upon him) dislikes it." So Uwaymir came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) himself and said: "What do you think if I find a (strange) man with my wife?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring your wife, for a verse has been revealed concerning the two of you." So he brought her and the two of them performed li'an (mutual imprecation). Then Uwaymir said: "I have fabricated a lie against her." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) separated the two of them. Ibn Shihab said: "Then his separating from her became the practice among the Muslims."
