Muhammad bin Abi Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf says that he heard his father say: Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) bathed at al-Kharrar and took off a cloak he was wearing, while Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) was watching. The narrator says: Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) was a fair-complexioned man with beautiful skin. Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: I have never seen anything like what I have seen today, nor even the skin of a virgin. Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) was seized by fever on the spot, and his fever grew severe. Someone came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him that Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) had come down with fever and would not be able to go with him. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him himself, and Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) told him what had happened with Amir. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why would one of you kill his brother? Why did you not pray for blessing? The evil eye is real; perform ablution for him." So Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) performed ablution for him, and Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) set off with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), with nothing wrong with him.
