It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rifa'ah bin Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man praying in the mosque and said: "Go back and pray again." He said this two or three times. Then the man said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you stand for prayer, perform ablution as Allah has commanded you, then stand, face the qiblah and say takbir. If you know some Qur'an, recite it; otherwise glorify Allah and proclaim His greatness. Then bow and place your palms firmly on your knees, then raise your head until your back is straight, then prostrate and place your forehead firmly on the ground, then keep doing the same. When you have done this, your prayer is complete, and whatever you fall short of in it, you have fallen short in your prayer."
