Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 4513 — from his father, from his uncle Sayyiduna

Ali bin Yahya bin Khallad bin Rafi' al-Ansari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, from his uncle Sayyiduna Rifa'ah bin Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man of the Ansar came, after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, and he prayed. Then he came and greeted him (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And upon you be peace. Go back and pray again, for you have not prayed." He said: O Messenger of Allah, I have tried, so explain it to me clearly. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you stand in your prayer, proclaim Allah's greatness, then recite whatever is easy for you from the Qur'an. Then when you bow, place your hands firmly on your knees until every bone of yours is at rest. Then when you raise your head, stand straight until every bone of yours returns to its place. Then when you prostrate, be at rest until every bone of yours is straight. Then when you raise your head, stay firm until every bone returns to its place. Then do the same again. Then when you sit in the middle of your prayer, be at rest, spread out your left thigh, then recite the tashahhud. Then when you stand, do the same until you finish your prayer."
