Ali bin Yahya (of the family of Rifa'ah bin Rafi') (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, from an uncle of his who had fought at Badr, that a man entered the mosque and prayed while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was watching him and he was unaware of it. When he finished, he came and greeted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back and pray again, for you have not prayed." So he went back and prayed, then came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back and pray again, for you have not prayed." He went back and prayed two or three times. The man said: By the One who has honoured you, O Messenger of Allah, I have tried, so teach me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you stand up intending to pray, perform ablution well, then face the qiblah, then recite, then bow and be at rest, then prostrate and be at rest in prostration, then raise your head until you are at rest in sitting, then prostrate until you are at rest in prostration, then raise your head, then keep doing this until you finish your prayer."
