Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A son was born to Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her). He fell ill and his illness grew severe, then he died while Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Talhah came back from him (peace and blessings be upon him) after praying Maghrib, and Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) had wrapped him (the child) in a shroud and placed him in a corner of the house. Abu Talhah went towards him, but she said: "I adjure you by my right over you not to go near him, for since he fell ill he has never been better than he is tonight." She served him his food to break his fast, and he broke his fast. Then she took some perfume and applied it, then she drew close to Abu Talhah, and he had relations with her. Then she said: "O Abu Talhah! Have you seen some neighbours who lent their neighbours something, until they (the borrowers) thought they had left it to them, and then, when they asked for it back from them, they were upset?" He said: "They did wrong." She said: "Allah lent you so-and-so (your son), then took him back from you, and He has the greater right to him." As soon as morning came, Abu Talhah went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him the whole story, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah bless the two of you in this night of yours." So she conceived and gave birth to Abdullah bin Abi Talhah. She gave birth to him in the last part of the night and said: "Do not disturb him until morning." When morning came, she bathed him and cut his umbilical cord, then called Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "My son! Take your brother to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came carrying him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing wearing a waist-wrap, with a hoe in his (peace and blessings be upon him) hand. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Anas! What is this with you?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! My brother." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give him to me." I gave him to him (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a date, chewed it, then put it in the child's mouth (tahnik), and the child began smacking his lips. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and said: "The Ansar love dates."
