Al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I entered Madinah and sat by the pulpit, and a man came and sat beside me. He said: Can you guide me to a man who will narrate to me a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Then he took me to Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her), and she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the pulpit, and the people heard that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing on the pulpit, so the people came running, and I was among those who came to him (peace and blessings be upon him). I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Tamim al-Dari has told me that some of his cousins sailed on the sea in their ship for trade, and the wind drove them to an island. They (or those of them who went out) went out to see whether they could see anyone, until they met a (being) covered with hair, from whom it could not be made out whether it was male or female. They said: (Give us) news. It said: The news is with the master of this monastery, and I am al-Jassas. So they went to the monastery, and there was a man weighed down with iron. He asked them where they were from, and they told him. He said: What has become of the Prophet of the Arabs; has he come out? They said: Yes. He said: Is he followed by the lowly people or by the nobles? They said: He is followed by the simple (ordinary) people. He said: Are they increasing or decreasing? They said: They are increasing. He said: Does anyone who has come to him turn back? They said: No. He said: That is better for them. What is the state of the lake of Tiberias; is there water in it? They said: Yes. He said: What is the state of the date palms of Baysan; do they bear fruit? They said: Yes. He said: What is the state of the spring of Zughar; is there water in it? They said: Yes. He said: Listen, if I were given permission, I would tread over this whole earth with my foot, except Taybah." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And this is Taybah; at every pass into it there stands an angel with his sword drawn, towards Iraq. He is towards Iraq; he is towards Iraq."
