Al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A man and I set out until we came to Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of al-Dahhak bin Qays, and we said: O Fatimah! Narrate to us a hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: Yes. Then she fed us fresh dates and gave us a drink, and she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out one day and sat on the pulpit, and the people sought refuge with him and clung to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Only a piece of news has made me sit here." Fatimah said: And this was at a time other than the time at which he (peace and blessings be upon him) usually sat. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Tamim al-Dari had come to him today at midday or in the intense heat, and he told him that his cousins had been cast by their ship in the sea onto an island which they did not recognise, so they went out walking on it, and they met something about which they did not know whether it was a man or a woman, because it was covered with hair. They asked: Who are you? It said: I am al-Jassasah. They said: Give us news. It said: I will neither give you news nor ask you for news; if you want news, then go to this monastery. And it pointed to a monastery on the island, a short distance away. So we walked on until we entered it, and there was a man bound in great, heavy chains, with his back leaning against the foot of a mountain. He said: Who are you? We said: Some people of the Arabs. He said: What has become of that unlettered Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who was being awaited? We said: He has appeared. He said: What is the state of the date palms between Amman and Baysan? We said: They are as they were, giving food and bearing fruit. He said: What is the state of the spring of Zughar? We said: It is as it was. He said: What is the state of the lake of Tiberias? We said: It is full. Then he struck the sole of his foot with his hand and said: If I were to come out from this place of mine, I would not leave any spot on earth without treading upon it, except Makkah and Taybah. Then he let out a sigh and began to walk in the mountain, then he fell; then he walked again, farther than that, then he fell; then he walked a third time and went into the mountain, then he fell. We said: What is the matter with him, may Allah not bless him! And it was as if the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased with this statement of his, "Makkah and Taybah", so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Taybah (he said it twice) the Dajjal will not be able to enter; there is no pass into it without an angel stationed over it with a drawn sword, and he (the Dajjal) is from the direction of Yemen." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand, with the sleeve of his shirt (over his hand), about thirty times towards Iraq (and said): "And he is (in that direction)", about thirty times.
