Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 19293 — Nine wives, including Sayyidah Safiyyah

Ibn Abi Mulaykah and Amr bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on them both) said: Nine wives, including Sayyidah Safiyyah, were gathered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) after Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while all of them were married to him. Uthman bin Abi Sulayman added two more women besides these nine, from Banu Amir bin Sa'sa'ah, with both of whom the marriage was consummated. One of them was called Umm al-Masakin (the mother of the poor), and she was the best of his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives towards the poor. He (peace and blessings be upon him) also married a woman of Banu al-Jawn, and when she came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), she sought refuge from him (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) divorced her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) also married a woman of Kindah but did not consummate the marriage with her, and she married after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) separated the two of them and beat her husband. She said: O Umar! Fear Allah. If I am one of the Mothers of the Believers, then impose the veil on me and give me what you have given them. Umar said: "That cannot be." She said: Then let me marry. Umar said: "No, nor will any favour be granted, nor will I let anyone hope for that."
