Abu Umamah bin Sahl narrated from his father: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her) in Makkah; before him (peace and blessings be upon him) she had been married to Atiq bin A'idh al-Makhzumi. Then in Makkah he married Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her); apart from her, he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not marry any virgin. Then he married Sayyidah Hafsah bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her); before him (peace and blessings be upon him) she had been married to Khunays bin Hudhafah al-Sahmi. Then he married Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam'ah (may Allah be pleased with her); before him (peace and blessings be upon him) she had been married to al-Sakan bin Amr, the brother of Banu Amir bin Lu'ayy. Then he married Sayyidah Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with her); before him (peace and blessings be upon him) she had been married to Ubaydullah bin Jahsh al-Asadi (of Asad Khuzaymah). Then he married Sayyidah Umm Salamah bint Abi Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), whose name was Hind; before him (peace and blessings be upon him) she had been married to Abu Salamah Abdullah bin Abd al-Asad bin Abd al-Uzza. Then he married Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her); before him (peace and blessings be upon him) she had been married to Zayd bin Harithah. Then he married Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). And he took captive Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith bin Abi Dirar (may Allah be pleased with her) of Banu al-Mustaliq, a branch of Khuza'ah, in his expedition of al-Muraysi', in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) demolished Manat. And he took captive Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy bin Akhtab (may Allah be pleased with her) of Banu al-Nadir, who was among the spoils that Allah granted him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) assigned her a turn (like the other wives). And he kept Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with her) of Banu Qurayzah as a slave-woman, then freed her, and she went back to her family and observed the veil while she stayed with her family. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) divorced al-Aliyah bint Zabyan, separated from a woman of Banu Amr bin Kilab, and separated from a woman of Banu al-Jawn, the Kindite, because of the whiteness (marks of leprosy) on her body. And Sayyidah Zaynab bint Khuzaymah al-Hilaliyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) died while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was alive. And it has reached us that al-Aliyah bint Zabyan, before Allah made his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives forbidden (to others), married a cousin of hers from her own people and bore children among them.
