Qatadah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married fifteen women: six of them were from Quraysh, one from the allies of Quraysh, seven from the rest of the Arabs, and one from the Children of Israel. Of them, he (peace and blessings be upon him) married only one in the time of Jahiliyyah, and it was from her alone that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had children. The first wife he married in the time of Jahiliyyah was Khadijah bint Khuwaylid bin Asad bin Abd al-Uzza bin Qusayy. Before him, she had been married to Atiq bin A'idh bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Makhzum; then after Atiq, Abu Halah Hind bin Zurarah bin Nabbash bin Habib bin Surad bin Salamah bin Jarwah bin Usayd bin Amr bin Tamim married her, and she bore him a son named Hind bin Hind. Zuhayr said: Yunus bin Ubayd said that Hind passed through Basrah and died there, and on that day no market was held and no pasture was tended. After the two of them, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her (Khadijah), and in the time of Jahiliyyah she bore him (peace and blessings be upon him) Abd Manaf, and in Islam she bore two sons and four daughters.
