Sayyiduna Qabisah bin Mukhariq al-Hilali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask him about a guarantee, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stay until the charity comes to us; then either we will give you from it or we will bear it for you." Then he said about it: "Asking is permissible only for three: a man who takes on a guarantee between people, so he asks for it until he pays it, then he stops; and a man struck by need, until three men of sound judgement from his people testify that he has truly been struck by what makes asking permissible, so asking becomes permissible for him until he obtains enough to sustain his living or to suffice him, then he stops. And, O Qabisah, asking other than this is unlawful earnings (suht), which the one who asks eats as something unlawful."
Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This wording is that of the narration of Ibn Ulayyah.
