Abd al-Malik bin Abi Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith bin Hisham narrated from his father that he heard Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "Whoever wakes up in the morning in a state of janabah, there is no fast for him." So Abu Bakr and his father Abd al-Rahman went to Sayyidah Umm Salamah and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with them both), and both of them said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up in the morning in a state of janabah, not from a wet dream, and then fast." So Abu Bakr and his father Abd al-Rahman went to Marwan and told him this, and he said: I adjure you both to go to Abu Hurayrah and tell him. So Abu Bakr and Abd al-Rahman came to Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him. He said: Did the two of them tell you this? They both said: Yes. He said: "They know better; it was al-Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who narrated this hadith to me."
