Humayd bin Hilal said: When the tribulation (fitnah) broke out, Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Hujayr bin al-Rabi' al-Adawi: "Go to your people and forbid them from the tribulation." He said: "I am obscure among them; I will not be obeyed." He said: "Then convey it to them on my behalf and forbid them from the tribulation." And I heard Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) swear by Allah: "That I should be a black Abyssinian slave on a mountaintop, tending a few goats until my death comes to me, is dearer to me than that I should shoot an arrow in either of the two ranks, whether it misses or hits."
