حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْباعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، ثَنَا أَبُو عُشَّانَةَ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ يَصْبُغُ بِالسَّوَادِ، وَيَقُولُ: «تُسَوِّدُ أَعْلَاهَا وَتَأْبَى أُصُولُهَا» قَالَ: وَكَانَ شَاعِرًا
Abu Ushshanah reported that he saw Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) dyeing (his hair) with black and saying: "You blacken it on top, but the roots keep to their original colour." The narrator said: He was also a poet.
