حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ متويهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا يَمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ، ثنا أَشْعَثُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ وَرْقَاءَ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أُتِيَ بِضَبٍّ قَدْ شُوِيَ، فَأَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُودًا، فَجَعَلَ يَعُدُّ أَصَابِعَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أُمَّةٌ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُسِخَتْ دَوَابَّ فِي الْأَرْضِ، وَإِنِّي لَا أَدْرِي، أَيَّ دَوَابَّ هِيَ» ، فَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ، وَلَمْ يَنْهُ عَنْهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thabit bin Zayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that a roasted lizard was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) took a stick and began counting on his fingers, then said: "A nation of the Children of Israel was transformed into creatures of the earth, and I do not know which creature it is." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not eat any of it, nor did he forbid it.
