Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I fear that I have been ruined. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why?" He said: Allah Almighty forbids a man from being praised for what he has not done, yet I find that I love praise; and He forbids arrogance, yet I find that I love beauty; and Allah forbids us from raising our voices above your voice, yet I am one with a loud voice. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Thabit, are you not pleased to live praiseworthy, to die a martyr, and to enter Paradise?"
