Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I fear that I have been ruined. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why?" He said: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has forbidden us from being praised for what we have not done, yet I love praise; and He has forbidden us from arrogance, yet I love beauty; and He has also forbidden us from raising our voices above your voice, yet I am a man with a loud voice. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Thabit, are you not pleased to live praiseworthy, to die a martyr, and to enter Paradise?" He said: Of course, O Messenger of Allah. So he lived praiseworthy and was martyred on the day of Musaylimah the Liar.
