Isma'il bin Muhammad bin Thabit al-Ansari narrates from Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I fear that I have been ruined." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For what reason?" He said: "Allah has forbidden us from being praised for what we have not done, and I find myself loving praise. He has forbidden us from arrogance, and I am a man who loves beauty. And He has forbidden us from raising our voices above your voice, and I am a man with a loud voice." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Thabit bin Qays, are you not pleased to live praised, die a martyr and enter Paradise?"
