Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 12858 — I heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثنا أَبُو الْجُمَاهِرِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ الْخَضِرَ لِأَنَّهُ قَعَدَ عَلَى فَرْوَةٍ بَيْضَاءَ فَاهْتَزَّتْ خَضْرَاءَ» قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ: وَحَدَّثَنِي سُوَيْدٌ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ أَنَّ قَتَادَةَ كَانَ يَرْفَعُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Abdullah bin al-Harith narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) say on the pulpit: "Al-Khidr was given this name because he sat on a patch of white land, and it stirred and turned lush green."
Sa'id bin Bashir said: Suwayd Abu Hatim told me that Qatadah used to narrate this hadith as marfu' (attributed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)).
