Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I spent the night at the house of my maternal aunt Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up during the night, went to relieve himself, then came back and washed his face and hands, then stood for the night prayer. Then he went to the waterskin and performed a light yet complete ablution, neither using much water nor falling short, and then stood for prayer. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I moved (from my place), disliking that he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) should see that I had been watching out for him, that is, keeping an eye on him ((peace and blessings be upon him)). Then I got up and did just as he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) had done, and stood on his left side ((peace and blessings be upon him)), so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) took hold of me by the side of my ear and turned me around to his right side. His ((peace and blessings be upon him)) prayer was completed at thirteen rak'ahs, including the two rak'ahs of Fajr. Then he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) lay down and slept until he began to snore. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and informed him of the prayer, so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) got up and led the prayer without performing ablution.
