Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I spent the night at the house of my maternal aunt Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw him ((peace and blessings be upon him)) get up once during the night and relieve himself. Then he came to the waterskin, undid its tie and performed an ablution between the two ablutions (a light one), then came to his bed and slept. Then he came (again) to the waterskin, undid its tie and performed the full ablution (for prayer), then began to pray. I also got up and did just as he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) had done, then I came to him ((peace and blessings be upon him)) and stood on his left side ((peace and blessings be upon him)), so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) turned me around and made me stand on his right side. Then he prayed eleven or thirteen rak'ahs, then lay down and slept until he began to snore. I heard him ((peace and blessings be upon him)) say in his prostration: "O Allah, place light in my heart, place light in my hearing, place light in my sight, place light behind me, place light in front of me, place light on my right, place light on my left, place light above me, place light beneath me, and make light great for me." Then he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) lay down and slept until he began to snore. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and informed him of the prayer, so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) went out.
