It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out while the people were sitting, and said: "Shall I not tell you who is the best of people in rank?" The Companions said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man who holds the rein of his horse in the path of Allah," or he said: "of a horse in the path of Allah, or is killed." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you about the one who comes after him?" The Companions said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man who lives in seclusion in a mountain pass, establishes the prayer, gives the zakah, and keeps away from the evils of people. Shall I not tell you about the worst of people?" The Companions said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who is asked in the name of Allah and does not give."
