حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، وَحَجَّاجُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ، قَالَا: ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ الْعُقَيْلِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهماُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا نَظَرَ فِي الْمَرْآةِ قَالَ: «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي حَسَّنَ خَلْقِي، وَزَانَ مِنِّي مَا شَانَ مِنْ غَيْرِي» .
فَإِذَا اكْتَحَلَ جَعَلَ فِي كُلِّ عَيْنٍ ثِنْتَيْنِ وَوَاحِدَةً بَيْنَهُمَا، وَكَانَ إِذَا لَبِسَ بَدَأَ بِالْيَمِينِ، وَإِذَا خَلَعَ خَلَعَ الْيُسْرَى، وَكَانَ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ أَدْخَلَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُمْنَى، وَكَانَ يُحِبُّ التَّيَمُّنَ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، إِذَا أَخَذَ وَإِذَا أَعْطَى

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked in the mirror, he would say: "All praise is for Allah, who made my form beautiful, and made beautiful in me what He made unsightly in others."
And when he applied kohl, he would apply two strokes in each eye and one between them; when he put on clothing, he would begin with the right side, and when he took it off, he would take off the left side first; when he entered the mosque, he would put his right foot in first; and he preferred the right in everything, in taking and in giving.
