قَالَ جَعْفَرٌ : قُلْتُ لَهُ : حَدَّثَكَ أَنَسٌ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two men were travelling through a scorching desert; one of them was very devoted to worship, while the other had some waywardness and shortcomings (rahaq) in his deeds. The worshipper was overcome by severe thirst and collapsed. His companion, seeing him lying senseless on the ground, said (to himself): 'By Allah, if this righteous servant of Allah dies of thirst while I have water with me, I will never attain any good from Allah; and if I give him my water to drink, I will surely die (of thirst) myself.' At last he put his trust in Allah Almighty and made a firm resolve (to prefer the other over himself). So he sprinkled some of his water on the worshipper and gave him the rest to drink, and the worshipper came round and stood up, until the two of them crossed that wilderness." He (peace and blessings be upon him) further said: "Then on the Day of Resurrection that sinful man will be presented for the reckoning and the order of Hell will be passed regarding him. As the angels are driving him along, he will see that worshipper and call out: 'O so-and-so, do you recognise me?' The worshipper will say: 'Who are you?' He will reply: 'I am the man who preferred you over myself on the day in the desert.' The worshipper will say: 'Yes! I recognise you.' Then he will say to the angels: 'Stop!' So he will be stopped, and the worshipper will present himself in the divine court and plead with his Lord: 'Ya Rabbi, qad ta'rifu yadahu indi, wa kayfa atharani ala nafsihi, ya Rabbi, hab-hu li' (O my Lord, You know well the favour he did me and how he preferred me over himself; O my Lord, forgive him for my sake and grant him to me). Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will say: 'He is yours (i.e. I have granted him to you).'" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then that worshipper will come, take him by the hand and admit him into Paradise."
Ja'far (the narrator) said: I asked (my teacher Abu Zilal): "Did Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) himself narrate this hadith to you?" He said: "Yes."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The rows of the people of Hell will be made to pass (before the people of Paradise), and a man among them will pass by a man of the people of Paradise and say: 'O so-and-so, do you not recognise me?' He will ask: 'Who are you?' He will say: 'I am the one from whom you asked for water for ablution, and I provided you with water.' So that man of Paradise will intercede for him, and his intercession will be accepted. Likewise another man will pass by and say: 'O so-and-so, do you not recognise me?' He will ask: 'Who are you?' He will say: 'Did you not send me for such-and-such a task, and I fulfilled that need of yours?' So he (the man of Paradise) will intercede for him, and his intercession on his behalf will be accepted."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man of the people of Paradise will look down upon a man of the people of Hell, and that man of Hell will call out: 'O so-and-so, do you not recognise me?' The man of Paradise will reply: 'No, by Allah, I do not recognise you. Who are you, bless you?' That man will say: 'I am the one by whom you passed in the world, and you asked me for some water to drink and I gave you to drink; so today intercede for me before your Lord in return for that good deed.'" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So that man of Paradise, when admitted into the presence of Allah Almighty, will submit: 'O my Lord, I looked towards the people of Hell, and a man from the people of the Fire stood up and called out: "O so-and-so, do you not recognise me?" I said: "By Allah, I do not know you; who are you?" He said: "I am the one by whom you passed in the world, and you asked me for water and I gave you to drink; so intercede for me with your Lord."' Then that man of Paradise will submit: 'O my Lord, accept my intercession for him.' So Allah Almighty will accept his intercession concerning him and bring him out of the fire of Hell."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded this hadith in his Musnad (number: 7543); however, its chain has weakness because of Ali bin Abi Sarah, and Allamah al-Albani declared it da'if (weak).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned this matter) and further said: "The confirmation of this reality is also present in the Noble Qur'an: "If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will expiate your (minor) misdeeds for you and admit you to a noble entrance (Paradise)" [Surah al-Nisa': 31]." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So those who avoid the major sins, and those who fall into them (the major sins), for all of them the intercession of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is established and true."
Imam al-Bayhaqi recorded this hadith in Shu'ab al-Iman (4611). Its chain contains Yazid bin Aban al-Raqashi, a da'if (weak) narrator; however, the meaning of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) intercession for sinful believers is established by other reliable and authentic hadith.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty gathers all creatures (on one plain) on the Day of Resurrection, a caller will call out: 'Where are the people of virtue?' Some people will stand up, very few in number, and they will set off swiftly towards Paradise. The angels will meet them and ask: 'We see that you are heading towards Paradise with great speed; who are you?' They will reply: 'We are the people of virtue.' The angels will ask: 'What was your virtue?' They will say: 'Our way was that when we were wronged we were patient, when we were treated badly we forgave, and when we were treated with folly and ignorance we showed forbearance.' It will be said to them: 'Enter Paradise, for "excellent is the reward of those who work (righteousness)"' [Surah al-Zumar: 74]. Then a caller will call out: 'Where are the people of patience?' Some people will step forward, few in number, and they will hurry towards Paradise. The angels will meet them and say: 'We see that you are heading towards Paradise with great speed; who are you?' They will say: 'We are the people of patience.' The angels will ask: 'What was your patience like?' They will reply: 'We were patient (and steadfast) in obedience to Allah Almighty, and we were patient (restraining ourselves) in keeping away from disobedience to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.' So it will be said to them: 'Enter Paradise, for excellent is the reward of those who work.' Then a caller will call out: 'Where are those who loved one another for the sake of Allah Almighty' - or he said: 'for the sake of the very Being of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic' - (the narrator was unsure of this wording). Some people will stand up, few in number, and they will set off swiftly towards Paradise. The angels will meet them and say: 'We saw you heading towards Paradise with great speed; who are you?' They will reply: 'We are those who loved one another for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic' - or 'for the sake of the Being of Allah.' The angels will ask: 'What was your mutual love like?' They will say: 'We loved one another for Allah, visited one another for Allah alone, showed compassion to one another for Allah, and gave to one another (wealth and goods) for the sake of Allah alone.' So it will be said to them: 'Enter Paradise, for excellent is the reward of those who work.'" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After these people have entered Paradise, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will set up the Scales for the reckoning (of the rest of creation)."
This narration is da'if (weak).
