It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man of the people of Paradise will look down upon a man of the people of Hell, and that man of Hell will call out: 'O so-and-so, do you not recognise me?' The man of Paradise will reply: 'No, by Allah, I do not recognise you. Who are you, bless you?' That man will say: 'I am the one by whom you passed in the world, and you asked me for some water to drink and I gave you to drink; so today intercede for me before your Lord in return for that good deed.'" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So that man of Paradise, when admitted into the presence of Allah Almighty, will submit: 'O my Lord, I looked towards the people of Hell, and a man from the people of the Fire stood up and called out: "O so-and-so, do you not recognise me?" I said: "By Allah, I do not know you; who are you?" He said: "I am the one by whom you passed in the world, and you asked me for water and I gave you to drink; so intercede for me with your Lord."' Then that man of Paradise will submit: 'O my Lord, accept my intercession for him.' So Allah Almighty will accept his intercession concerning him and bring him out of the fire of Hell."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded this hadith in his Musnad (number: 7543); however, its chain has weakness because of Ali bin Abi Sarah, and Allamah al-Albani declared it da'if (weak).
