بَابُ دَفْنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ بِلَالٍ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ سَعِيدٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّاسُ اخْتَلَفُوا فِي دَفْنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : مَا مِنْ نَبِيٍّ يَمُوتُ إِلَّا يُدْفَنُ حِينَ يُقْبَضُ ، فَخُطُّوا حَوْلَ فِرَاشِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ ادْفِنُوهُ حَيْثُ قُبِضَ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ بِإِسْنَادٍ مُتَّصِلٍ ضَعِيفٍ فِي أَثْنَاءِ حَدِيثٍ ، وَأَخْرَجَهُ أَيْضًا بِسَنَدٍ مُعْضَلٍ ، وَهَذِهِ الطَّرِيقُ الْمُرْسَلَةُ أَصَحُّ مَخْرَجًا ، وَهِيَ تُعَضِّدُ ذَلِكَ الْمُتَّصِلَ وَتُشْعِرُ أَنَّ لَهُ أَصْلًا .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ بِإِسْنَادٍ مُتَّصِلٍ ضَعِيفٍ فِي أَثْنَاءِ حَدِيثٍ ، وَأَخْرَجَهُ أَيْضًا بِسَنَدٍ مُعْضَلٍ ، وَهَذِهِ الطَّرِيقُ الْمُرْسَلَةُ أَصَحُّ مَخْرَجًا ، وَهِيَ تُعَضِّدُ ذَلِكَ الْمُتَّصِلَ وَتُشْعِرُ أَنَّ لَهُ أَصْلًا .
It is narrated from al-Qasim bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) that a difference of opinion arose among the people (the Companions) about the place of burial of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said (ending this disagreement): "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'There is no prophet who dies except that he is buried where his soul is taken.' (Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed:) Now mark out a line around the blessed bed of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and then bury him in the very place where his soul was taken."
Imam Ahmad transmitted this hadith within a long narration with a connected but da'if (weak) chain, and he also narrated it with a mu'dal chain (one missing two or more consecutive narrators). However, this mursal route is more sound in its source, and it is this that strengthens that connected narration and shows that this report has a basis.

أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّينَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَشْيَاخُنَا ، عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وُضِعَ عِنْدَ الْمِنْبَرِ ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِ أَفْوَاجًا أَفْوَاجًا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Indeed, (the blessed body of) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was placed near the pulpit, and then the people came in wave after wave and group after group and began to offer the funeral prayer over him (peace and blessings be upon him)."
In the chain of this report the teachers of Muhammad bin Amr are unspecified (unnamed), on account of which this report is da'if (weak) in its chain. قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَامِرٌ وَهُوَ الشَّعْبِيُّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : إِنِّي لَآخِرُ النَّاسِ عَهْدًا بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَإِنَّا حَفَرْنَا لَهُ وَلَحَدْنَا ، فَلَمَّا دَفَنُوهُ وَخَرَجُوا أَلْقَيْتُ الْفَأْسَ فِي الْقَبْرِ ، فَقُلْتُ : الْفَأْسَ ، الْفَأْسَ ، فَدَخَلْتُ فَأَخَذْتُهُ ، وَمَسَحْتُ يَدِي عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
قُلْتُ : مُجَالِدٌ ضَعِيفٌ .
4332 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَالِدٌ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كَانَ يُحَدِّثُنَا هَاهُنَا بِالْكُوفَةِ ، فَقَالَ : أَنَا آخِرُ النَّاسِ عَهْدًا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا خَرَجَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مِنَ الْقَبْرِ وَدُفِنَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلْقَيْتُ خَاتَمِي ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ، خَاتَمِي ، قَالَ : انْزِلْ فَخُذْ خَاتَمَكَ ، فَنَزَلْتُ وَأَخَذْتُ خَاتَمِي ، وَوَضَعْتُهُ عَلَى الْكَفَنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ .
4332 \ 3 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا شُجَاعُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُجَالِدٌ بِهَذَا .
قُلْتُ : مُجَالِدٌ ضَعِيفٌ .
4332 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَالِدٌ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كَانَ يُحَدِّثُنَا هَاهُنَا بِالْكُوفَةِ ، فَقَالَ : أَنَا آخِرُ النَّاسِ عَهْدًا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا خَرَجَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مِنَ الْقَبْرِ وَدُفِنَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلْقَيْتُ خَاتَمِي ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ، خَاتَمِي ، قَالَ : انْزِلْ فَخُذْ خَاتَمَكَ ، فَنَزَلْتُ وَأَخَذْتُ خَاتَمِي ، وَوَضَعْتُهُ عَلَى الْكَفَنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ .
4332 \ 3 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا شُجَاعُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُجَالِدٌ بِهَذَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Indeed I am the last person to have been in the company of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the very last moment. We dug the blessed grave for him (peace and blessings be upon him) and prepared the niche (lahd). Then, when the people had buried him (peace and blessings be upon him) and came out, I (deliberately) dropped my axe into the grave and called out: My axe! My axe! So I went down into the grave (on this pretext), picked it up and passed my hand over the pure body of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: its narrator Mujalid is da'if (weak). According to the narration of Imam Ahmad bin Mani', Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to narrate this hadith to us in Kufah, saying: "I am the last of all people to have been near the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He related: "When Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came out of the blessed grave and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had been laid to rest, I threw my ring inside and said: O Abu al-Hasan! My ring (has been left inside). He said: Go down and pick up your ring. So I went down, picked up my ring, touched it to the blessed shroud and then came out."
Abu Ya'la also narrated it likewise with his chain.
