أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّينَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَشْيَاخُنَا ، عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وُضِعَ عِنْدَ الْمِنْبَرِ ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِ أَفْوَاجًا أَفْوَاجًا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Indeed, (the blessed body of) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was placed near the pulpit, and then the people came in wave after wave and group after group and began to offer the funeral prayer over him (peace and blessings be upon him)."
In the chain of this report the teachers of Muhammad bin Amr are unspecified (unnamed), on account of which this report is da'if (weak) in its chain. However, that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) offered the funeral prayer over the pure body of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) group after group without an imam is established from other reliable reports and the books of sirah.
