It is narrated from Mughirah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I came to Ibrahim al-Nakha'i and said that a man called Sa'd al-Anazi had disputed with me (over a scholarly matter). Ibrahim al-Nakha'i said (correcting him): "He is not al-Anazi; rather he is al-Zubaydi." (Mughirah said that) this man had taken the position, concerning this statement of Allah Almighty: "The Bedouins say, 'We have believed.' Say: You have not believed; but say, 'We have submitted'" [Surah al-Hujurat: 14], that "what is meant by this (aslamna) is merely outward submission and laying down of arms, being overpowered, in order to save one's life (al-istislam)." At this Ibrahim al-Nakha'i said (refuting it): "No, rather it means entering the religion of Islam."
Musnad Ishaq bin Rahwayh: 3734; its chain is sahih (authentic), and this is a weighty exegetical statement of Imam Ibrahim al-Nakha'i.

It is narrated from the daughter of Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Ata al-Khurasani (may Allah have mercy on him) relates: I came to Madinah and met a man of the Ansar. I requested him: "Narrate to me some hadith about Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him)." He said: "Certainly, come with me." I went along with him until I reached the door of a house. He seated me at the door and went inside himself, and he remained inside for quite a while. Then he called us and took us in to a woman and said: "This is the daughter of Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him); ask her whatever you wish." I said: "Rahimaki Allah (may Allah have mercy on you), tell me something about him (your father)." She said: "When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this blessed verse to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): 'O you who believe! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet' [Surah al-Hujurat: 2], he (Sayyiduna Thabit) secluded himself in his house, shut his door and began to weep bitterly. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) found him absent (from the gathering) and asked: 'What is the matter with Thabit?' The Companions said: 'O Messenger of Allah! We do not know his actual condition, except that he has shut his door and is sitting inside weeping.' So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) summoned him and asked: 'What is the matter with you?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah! This verse has been revealed to you: O you who believe! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet [Surah al-Hujurat: 2]; and I am by nature a man with a loud voice. I fear that my deeds may have been rendered void.' He (peace and blessings be upon him) reassured him, saying: 'You are not one of them; rather you will live in goodness and you will die in goodness.'"
Imam Abu Ya'la related it in his Musnad; the core of the event is also found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, and its chain is of hasan (good) grade.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people, expressing their intention to come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: "Come with us to this man; if he really is a Prophet of Allah, we will bear witness to his prophethood, and if he is merely a king, we will live under his shelter and protection." I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of this matter. Then those people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and began calling out to him from outside his blessed chamber: "O Muhammad! O Muhammad!" At this Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "Indeed, those who call you from behind the chambers, most of them do not understand" [Surah al-Hujurat: 4]. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of my ear and, pulling it (affectionately), began to say: "O Zayd! Allah has indeed proven your word true. O Zayd! Allah has indeed confirmed your word."
Imam Abu Ya'la also related this hadith from Mu'tamir by way of Muhammad bin Yahya bin Abi Saminah.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs before Asr. (Once) a delegation of Banu al-Mustaliq came to him (peace and blessings be upon him). After the event (of the Battle of al-Muraysi'), he (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent al-Walid bin Uqbah to them to collect the zakah of their wealth. When Banu al-Mustaliq heard of his coming, some of them rode out (to receive him), saying: "We will greatly honour the envoy of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), guide him through our lands and converse with him." But when al-Walid bin Uqbah heard of their coming, he turned back (out of some fear or misunderstanding) and came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Banu al-Mustaliq have refused to pay their zakah." When those people learned that he had gone back, they too set out, following in his footsteps, until they reached Madinah. They joined the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the first row for the first prayer (Zuhr). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded with the salam, they said (humbly): "We seek refuge with Allah and His Messenger from the anger of Allah and the anger of His Messenger." They kept apologising until the mu'adhdhin came for the Asr prayer. Then Allah Almighty revealed this blessed verse: "O you who believe! If a wicked person brings you news, verify it thoroughly, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and then become regretful over what you have done" [Surah al-Hujurat: 6].
In the chain of this report, Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi is a weak narrator; however, the origin of this event is found with other supporting reports in the books of tafsir and sirah, which explain the occasion of revelation of this verse.
