It is narrated from Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding this statement of Allah Almighty: "You will soon be called (to battle) against a people of great might and fierce in war; you will fight them, or they will accept Islam. Then if you obey (this call), Allah will give you an excellent reward; but if you turn away as you turned away before, He will afflict you with a painful punishment" [Surah al-Fath: 16], that he said concerning the identity of this people: "It refers to the people of Persia and the Romans."
Imam Musaddad transmitted this report from Hushaym, from Mansur bin Zadhan, from Imam al-Hasan al-Basri.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Jum'ah Junayd bin Sab' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he related: "In the early part of the day I fought against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a disbeliever, and then in the latter part of that same day, having become a Muslim, I fought (the enemy) side by side with him (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time we were three men and seven women in all, and it was concerning us that this noble verse was revealed: 'And if it had not been for believing men and believing women' [Surah al-Fath: 25]."
