It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the noble saying of Allah Almighty: "Then indeed, he will have a constricted life" [Surah Ta Ha: 124], that he said: "Indeed, the constricted and hardship-filled life which Allah Almighty mentioned refers to the punishment of the grave."
A similar report is also transmitted from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the course of a long hadith.

Abu Ya'la (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated (with his chain), through Ibn Hujayrah, from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), something similar in meaning in the course of a hadith.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "Ta Ha" [Surah Ta Ha: 1], that he said in explaining it: "It means 'ya rajul' (O man!), and this word is from the Nabataean language."
Al-Harith narrated it in his Musnad. In its chain, Sharik bin Abdullah al-Qadi is open to question because of the weakness of his memory; however, this meaning is supported on the basis of other corroborating reports.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) (concerning the calf) that he said: "Whenever that calf made its peculiar sound, those people (the Children of Israel) would fall down in prostration, and when it fell silent, they would raise their heads (from prostration)."
Ahmad bin Mani' transmitted this report in his Musnad. In its chain, the narrator Farqad bin Ya'qub al-Sabakhi is da'if (weak). Moreover, it is a saying of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) (a mawquf report), which apparently is taken from the accounts of earlier scriptures (Isra'iliyyat).

It is narrated from al-Dahhak bin Muzahim (may Allah have mercy on him) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "a lowing sound" [Surah al-A'raf: 148], that he said: "'Khara khawratan' means that it (the calf) made a sound like a bull only once, and 'lam yuthanni' means it did not repeat that sound again. Have you not seen that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said, describing its helplessness: 'Did they not see that it could not return to them any word' [Surah Ta Ha: 89], and Allah, Majestic and Exalted, further said: 'Did they not see that it neither speaks to them nor guides them to a way' [Surah al-A'raf: 148]."
The narrator Juwaybir bin Sa'id in the chain of this report is matruk (abandoned) and severely weak; moreover, al-Dahhak's hearing from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) is not established. For this reason this report is weak in its chain.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) that a guest came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to a Jew and said: "Tell him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) says to you: Sell us (grain), or lend it to us on credit until the month of Rajab." I went and conveyed this message to him, and he replied: "By Allah! I will neither sell him anything nor lend him anything unless he leaves something with me as a pledge (security)." I returned and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of the situation, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Know well! By Allah, had he sold to me or lent to me, I would certainly have repaid him (on time). Indeed, I am trustworthy in the heavens and trustworthy on the earth. Take my iron coat of mail and go to that Jew." So I went with that coat of mail, and on this occasion this verse was revealed to console and comfort the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to some categories of them" [Surah Ta Ha: 131].
Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah recorded this report. This hadith indicates the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) asceticism, his poverty, and his great trustworthiness and integrity.
