It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man said (while supplicating): "Allahumma ighfir li wa li-Muhammadin wahdana (O Allah, forgive only me and Muhammad ((peace and blessings be upon him)))." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said (at this statement of his): "Indeed, you have restricted it (that is, Allah's vast forgiveness and mercy), withholding it from many people (and confining it to just two individuals)."
Imam Ibn Hibban recorded it.

It is narrated from Awn bin Abdullah that he met an elder in the land of Sham and asked him: Did you hear anything directly from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: Yes, I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allahumma ighfir lana warhamna (O Allah, forgive us and have mercy on us)."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad; in its chain, the narrator al-Mas'udi developed some weakness in memory, that is, ikhtilat (confusion), in the last part of his life; however, these blessed words of supplication are established and authenticated by other sahih hadith and supporting evidence.
