قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، ثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِمُحَمَّدٍ وَحْدَنَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَقَدْ حَجَرْتَهَا عَنْ نَاسٍ كَثِيرٍ " .
أَخْرَجَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man said (while supplicating): "Allahumma ighfir li wa li-Muhammadin wahdana (O Allah, forgive only me and Muhammad ((peace and blessings be upon him)))." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said (at this statement of his): "Indeed, you have restricted it (that is, Allah's vast forgiveness and mercy), withholding it from many people (and confining it to just two individuals)."
