قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ دُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَنْصُورٍ الْفَارِسِيِّ ، وَكَانَتْ فِيهِ حِدَّةٌ فَذُكِرَتْ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّهَا أَخْطَأَتْنِي ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّ الْحِدَّةَ تَعْتَرِي خِيَارَ أُمَّتِي " .
3243 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الْعَتَكِيُّ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبَانَ عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ بِهِ .
3243 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الْعَتَكِيُّ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبَانَ عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ بِهِ .
It is narrated from Abu Mansur al-Farisi that there was some sharpness and quickness of temper in his nature. When this was mentioned to him, he said: I would not at all like this trait to have missed me, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, sharpness and quickness of temper afflict the best people of my Ummah."
And Imam Abu Ya'la said: Abu al-Rabi' al-Ataki narrated to us; Abd al-Rahman bin Aban narrated to him, and al-Layth bin Sa'd narrated to him this narration with the same chain and text.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ، ثَنَا سَلَّامٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْحِدَّةُ تَعْتَرِي خِيَارَ أُمَّتِي " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sharpness, vehemence and quickness of temper (that is, quickly becoming angry or a fiery nature) come over even the best and choicest people of my Ummah."
