It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Fulfil the right of affection and love towards the one who holds a bond of love and friendship with you, for this is a means of making mutual relations more lasting and firm."
Imam al-Harith bin Abi Usamah recorded this hadith in his Musnad.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to establish brotherhood (mu'akhah) between pairs of his Companions. (Their attachment of hearts was such that) the night would feel very long to one of them (because of the separation) until he met his (religious) brother; then, when he met him, he would greet him with great affection and kindness and ask: "How have you been since I left you?" And generally (the practice of the Companions was that) no one would let a period of three days pass without being informed of his brother's well-being and circumstances.
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Yazid bin Na'amah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man establishes a bond of brotherhood and friendship with another, he should ask him about his name, his father's name and his family and background, for this is the best means of strengthening and nurturing mutual affection and love."
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah transmitted this hadith in his Musannaf, and Imam al-Tirmidhi also recorded it; however, there is disagreement over whether Yazid bin Na'amah in its chain is a Companion or a Successor.
