It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever walks to the mosque in the darkness of the night will meet Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he will have a special light."
All its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); however, this narration is munqati' (broken) between Imam Makhul and the Companion (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a long sermon to us, in which there was also this: "Whoever walks to any one of the mosques of Allah (to perform the prayer), then for every step he takes ten good deeds are written for him, ten bad deeds are erased from his record of deeds, and because of it he is raised ten ranks (in Paradise)."
This hadith is mawdu' (fabricated).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no Muslim who performs ablution well (observing all its etiquettes and sunnahs), then walks to one of the houses of Allah Almighty (the mosques) with the intention of performing an obligatory prayer there, except that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, writes for him a good deed for every step."
[Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded it in his Musnad: 6162. Its chain is da'if (weak) because of Abd al-A'la bin Abi al-Musawir, though the basis of the hadith is established in the Sahih through other supporting reports.]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The iqamah for the prayer had been called, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out walking towards the mosque, and I was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). We were both taking short steps (on the way), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I did this only so that the number of our steps in seeking the prayer would increase."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: The narrator named al-Dahhak is weak in memory, and what is mahfuz (preserved) and correct in this matter is that this narration is mawquf on Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): I left home intending to go to the mosque, and suddenly I met Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). He placed his hand on my shoulder so that he could walk leaning on me. He says: Because of my youth I began taking long strides, so Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: "Keep your steps close together, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever walks to the mosque, ten good deeds are written for him for every step.'"
