It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah Almighty, even if it is (in size) like the spot where a qata (a quail-like bird) lays its eggs, Allah Almighty will build for that person a house in Paradise in return."
Imam Ishaq bin Rahwayh narrated this hadith through Isa bin Yunus from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from his father, from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him). In Imam Ishaq's other chains, Jarir and Abu Mu'awiyah also narrated the like of it from al-A'mash, while Abu Bakr bin Ayyash and other narrators narrated it as marfu' (from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)). The narration of Ahmad bin Mani' has the addition: "And a good deed is written for him." Imam Ishaq narrated it through al-Mu'tamir bin Sulayman, and Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah through Yahya bin Adam from Qutbah, as marfu'. Imam al-Ruyani narrated it in his Musnad through Ahmad bin Yunus from Abu Bakr bin Ayyash as marfu'; there, Ibn Yunus reports that when it was put to Abu Bakr bin Ayyash (that no one but he had narrated it as marfu'), he said that he had
heard this narration from al-A'mash in his youth. Imam al-Bazzar narrated it as marfu' through Waki' from Sufyan al-Thawri; however, according to al-Bazzar, Salm bin Junadah is alone in this route. Imam Abu Ya'la in his Musnad, through Yahya bin Adam, and Muhammad bin Harb al-Nasha'i, through Ya'la bin Ubayd, also narrated it as marfu' by way of al-A'mash.
The author (Ibn Hajar) says that he has gathered all the routes (chains of transmission) of this hadith in a large treatise, in which he recorded it from more than thirty Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us (then the narrator mentioned a long hadith, in which it is also narrated) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, Allah Almighty will grant him for every span (or he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: for every cubit) forty million cities of gold, silver, pearls, rubies and lu'lu' (pearls); in every city there will be forty thousand palaces, in every palace seventy thousand dwellings, in every dwelling a thousand rooms, in every room forty thousand couches, and on every couch a wife from the hur al-'in (the wide-eyed maidens of Paradise); and in every room there will be forty thousand maidservants, and in every room forty thousand dining spreads, on every spread forty thousand bowls, and in every bowl forty thousand kinds of food. And Allah Almighty will grant His friend (the believing servant) such strength and vigour that he will be able to enjoy all those wives, and those varieties of food and drink, in a single day."
This hadith is mawdu' (fabricated).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever builds a mosque, even if it is as small as the nest where a (qata) bird lays its eggs, Allah Almighty will build for him a house in Paradise in return."
Al-Harith and Abu Ya'la narrated something of the same meaning through Yahya bin Abd al-Hamid, from Sharik, from Ammar al-Duhni, in these words: "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, Allah Almighty will build for him a house in Paradise in return."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever builds a mosque (for the pleasure of Allah), Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will prepare for him a magnificent house in Paradise in return." The Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Even these mosques (deserve the same reward) that are built along the road to Makkah?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, those too (are included in this virtue)."
Imam Ibn Abi Umar narrated this same narration through Marwan from Kathir al-Mu'addib, in which these words are added: "Even if it (the mosque) is the size of the nest (the egg-laying spot) of a qata bird."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever, from lawful and pure means, builds a house (a mosque) for the worship of Allah Almighty, in which Allah is worshipped, Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will build for him in return a house in Paradise adorned with pearls and rubies."
Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili narrated this hadith in his Musnad; its chain contains Sulayman bin Qarm, who is da'if (weak), but other sahih hadith on the virtue of building mosques bear witness to and support this meaning.
