حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَكِيمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا - قَالَتْ : إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا - لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ بُكِيَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَخَرَجَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - إِلَى الرِّجَالِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي أَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ شَأْنِ أُولَاءِ ، إِنَّهُنَّ حَدِيثَاتُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُنْضَحُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَمْرُ بِبُكَاءِ الْحَيِّ .
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed away, the women began weeping over him. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came out to the men and said: "I apologise to you for the conduct of these women, for they are still close to the time of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance). I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that live coals are sprinkled upon the deceased because of the wailing and weeping of the living."
