It is narrated from Hajib bin Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) that Bakr bin Abdullah al-Muzani (may Allah have mercy on him) fell ill, so al-Hakam bin al-A'raj and I went to visit him. There the matter was mentioned that the deceased is punished because of his family's weeping. Bakr bin Abdullah related that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Does a man go out to fight in the path of Allah Almighty, get martyred in some corner of the earth, and then some foolish, ignorant woman weeps over him, and he is punished because of that woman's weeping?" That Companion said to Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth, and Abu Hurayrah has erred."
In another narration of Imam Abu Ya'la about this same incident, the wording at the end is 'kadhaba' (he spoke wrongly) instead of 'abtala' (he erred), and this is repeated several times.
