It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'mar bin Abdullah bin Nadlah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came into the noble presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Keep an eye on the affair of Quraysh: listen (attentively) to what they say, but leave their (objectionable) deeds."
Imam Ahmad narrated this hadith in Musnad Ahmad (hadith: 15152); its chain contains a narrator named Mujalid bin Sa'id, whom the hadith scholars declared da'if (weak) because of his memory; however, its meaning is discussed in light of other supporting evidence.
