It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not revile Quraysh or speak ill of them, for the knowledge of one scholar of theirs will fill the face of the earth with knowledge and excellence." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) entreated Allah: 'Allahumma innaka adhaqta awwala Qurayshin nakalan, 'iqaban aw wabalan, fa-adhiq akhiraha nawalan', that is: "O Allah, You made the first of Quraysh taste an exemplary punishment or calamity (for their rebellion), so now bestow upon those who come after them Your gifts, forgiveness, favour and honour."
Imam Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi narrated this hadith in his Musnad; however, because of the weakness of al-Nadr bin Humayd and Abu al-Jarud in its chain, this report is not free of criticism with respect to its chain.
