قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : قَالَ : هَبَطْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ ثَنِيَّةِ هَرْشَا ، فَانْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ نَعْلِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَاوَلْتُهُ شِسْعِي ، فَأَبَى أَنْ يَقْبَلَهُ ، وَجَلَسَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ظِلِّ شَجَرَةٍ لِيُصْلِحَ نَعْلَهُ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِي : انْظُرْ مَنْ تَرَى ؟ قُلْتُ : هَذَا فُلَانٌ . قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : بِئْسَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فُلَانٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِي : انْظُرْ مَنْ تَرَى ؟ قُلْتُ : هَذَا فُلَانٌ . قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : بِئْسَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فُلَانٌ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِي : انْظُرْ مَنْ تَرَى ؟ قُلْتُ : هَذَا فُلَانٌ ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نِعْمَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فُلَانٌ . وَالَّذِي قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهُ : نِعْمَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فُلَانٌ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، وَأَمَّا الْآخَرَانِ لَا أُخْبِرُ بِهِمَا أَحَدًا .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): I descended with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the mountain pass of Harsha, and (on the way) the strap of his (peace and blessings be upon him) sandal broke. I offered him (peace and blessings be upon him) my own strap, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) declined to accept it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down in the shade of a tree to repair his sandal. Meanwhile he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: "Look, whom do you see?" I said: "This is so-and-so." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What a wretched servant of Allah so-and-so is!" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: "Look, whom do you see?" I said: "This is so-and-so." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What a wretched servant of Allah so-and-so is!" The narrator says: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: "Look, whom do you see?" I said: "This is so-and-so." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What an excellent servant of Allah so-and-so is!" The one about whom he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What an excellent servant of Allah so-and-so is," was Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him); as for the other two, I will not tell anyone about them.
