حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ ، فَرَّقَهُمَا قَالَا : ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ قَنَانِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّهْمِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْسَجَةَ ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبَا مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَقْرَأُ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كَأَنَّ صَوْتَ هَذَا مِنْ مَزَامِيرِ آلِ دَاوُدَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reciting the Noble Qur'an, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said (praising his beautiful voice and charming recitation): "It is as though this man's voice is one of the melodious tones of the family of Dawud (peace be upon him)."
The chain of this hadith is hasan (good), and its basic text is also found in Sahih al-Bukhari (5048) and Sahih Muslim (793), in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) likened the beautiful voice of Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) to the melody of Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him).
